26/11/2003 Results of comparative analysis on working surfaces of fume hoods for work with aggresive liquids*.

Exploitation data:

Polypropylene - working area is made of sheet polypropylene has welded connections, tightness of which is hard to supervise. Has high chemical resistance. Polypropylene is termoplastic, combustible, t max does not exceed 111°С. Electrostatic.

Ceramic tile - working area made of ceramic tile demands acid-proof seam fillers. As a rule, such connections in thin-wall constructions are unresistable to mechanic and thermal influences.

Fiberglass - working area is integral capsule, does not have connecting seams, therefore it's airtight. Fiberglass surface is easy to wash and clean. Smooth angles of capsule decrease airflow turbulence. Chemical resistance is high. Temperature proof, non-thermoplastic, t max does not exceed 180 °С. Fiberglass corresponds to international NFPA (Fire Protection For Laboratories Using Chemicals) standard and is fire-proof.

US and European standards do not consider ceramic granite cover for fume hoods, that is why this material is not mentioned in comparative analysis.

* Results of analysis correspond to British Standard BS 7258: Part 3: 1994.
